Hey you guys.
It’s been too long but I need to update what I’m doing right now to increase my page views
OK. I took almost 3 weeks off from blogging.
Well not really, I worked as a blogging assistant for another blog, but I didn’t do much for my own bog for nearly 2 full weeks.
Why did I take time off?
I got the flu, then a few days after that a sinus infection, then both kids got sick as well. Sick enough to be kept home and out of school for the entire week. After that was Thanksgiving and traveling, etc….
It made working from home extra challenging. So after finding the time to work for someone else, and take care of 3 sick people, I was just too worn out to do much else.
That’s Normal
Many of the bloggers I speak with tell me the same thing.
Sometimes you’re just too tired to work.
The biggest benefit of blogging seems to be the biggest downside as well. You can do it from anywhere. Which means you have a 24/7 job.
In the beginning you have to spend as much time as possible in front of a computer to:
- Make content
- Learn techniques
- Find the best social platform that fits your style
- Build the website on the back end
- Advertise
- Find ways to monetize
The list goes on but it all adds up to one thing, TIME. So when you can’t find time to sleep, it’s hard to find time to blog.
Do Something Everyday
When it’s hard to be creative, do something else. For me that was learning, brainstorming and getting prepared.
These past few weeks I 1. Listened to podcasts 2. Read a few chapters in the Blog Traffic Bootcamp course 3. Watched Youtube videos on content creation and found useful websites 4. Did a good, old fashioned paper and pencil list of new topics to write about and focus on and 5. Organized my workspace.
So not really anything I could immediately put onto the blog, but multiple things that will make it easier and could possibly be a traffic boost or revenue stream in the future.
Learning
Reading and Research
Podcasts are a huge advantage. There are so many big name bloggers and business strategists out there with podcasts. The knowledge!!!! Honestly it can be overwhelming, just the sheer amount of information out there is more than any one person can take in.
Pinterest is a great way to search for blogging info. It takes about 20 seconds to find dozens of bloggers with usable tips. As long as you can keep from getting to distracted by the other parts of Pinterest you should able to find a lot of free material.
My main source of info continues to be the Adventures in Blogging courses. Right now I’m perusing through the Blog Traffic Bootcamp. After it gets finished I’ll have actionable steps to work on. And probably have to go through the course another 2 or 3 times to make sure it was done right.
To me, YouTube offers the same things a podcast. I can put on a good video about almost anything and listen to it while I do dishes or get ready in the morning. It doesn’t take away time from doing other things but still provides a valuable source of material.
Trello
Probably the biggest thing I learned these past weeks was about the task management website Trello.
It is basically a huge online note keeper for your to-do lists, but it has so many features that you could run a company from its basic form. The business account has even more features that I don’t need yet, but when I do, I hope they are still around. It’s just so dang easy to use and it works. I like paper lists as much as anyone can but it’s nice to have an online platform you can access from anywhere so you don’t have to carry those lists around all the time.
Brainstorming and Planning
I love me some good brainstormin. A sheet of paper with circles and lines or a giant list of ideas…!!!!
That first idea is always the hardest. Do you ever just sit there with the pencil tip touching the paper but have absolutely nothing to write down?
Talk about a bummer.
In college, a professor once told me to write down a bunch of junk or even just doodle until the real words started coming out. And that is what happened this week. I sketched a beautiful picture of a cow being beamed up into a spaceship before any ideas started flowing.
I have to say, some of the plans are genius. But lots of people have genius plans. Now I need a good brainstorm to figure out what to do with them.
Any ideas for me? Let me know please, write me at lazygeniusmom@gmail.com.
Prepping for Success
It’s hard to get a good thought flow when your workspace looks like a disaster. Mine looked like a hoarder house. Piles of papers stacked precariously, ready to tip over at any moment. So far I’ve only managed to move things into better organized piles. But at least the things in them go together now.
Later they can get filed.
One step at a time.
What are you doing?
Do you have big blogging dreams? What are you doing to grow your blog. What do you want from it?
