If you want to take your blogging game to the next level, here are some of the FREE blogging resources from Adventuresinblogging.com that have helped me make smarter decisions and change the way I look at blogging entirely.
Blogging Rocks!! ———————–>But learning about blogging kinda stinks.
It’s not that it isn’t interesting. It’s just that there is so dang much to learn!!
Between SEO for Google, Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, etc…, pictures sizes, psychological techniques, legal, financial, time, managing the back end of a website, creativity, products, emails, and everything else under the sun, there is a lot to manage and so many skills to acquire.
But after you get past the initial hump, IT’S WORTH IT!
The reasons why blogging rocks!
- You can do it from anywhere – You don’t have to worry about PTO or putting in vacation requests. Just grab your laptop and you can blog from anywhere in the world. Even if you don’t have an internet connection or cell signal you can still create and just postpone until you do again.
- It can allow you to stay at home – Childcare costs a lot. When you work from home you can do away with before and after school care for older kids, and negate the need for a daycare center altogether for younger ones. I used a daycare for 3 hours a day in the beginning to allow some absolute quiet time to really learn, and blogging paid for that.
- It’s A LOT cheaper and faster than going back to college – Think about how much tuition costs even at a community college. To earn a new Associates degree you would need at minimum 1.5 years (if you take more than a full load) and it would cost between 3-5K/ semester. This is just to pay for the classes and fees. It doesn’t include the lost wages along the way you would miss out on to go back full time. If you’re only taking a few classes a semester, it would be more like 7 years to get that 2 year degree. Now quadruple that to go to a 4 year university. Even online college would be very expensive and would take years. Why wait when you can get started immediately, for a ton less?
- You get paid to interact with people (or stay away from them if you’re an introvert.) – It really is the job you make it. In the beginning you’ll be toiling away behind your keyboard, but as you grow you’ll get to the fun parts. THE NETWORKING!!! Blogging conferences, meetups, masterminds… —>> things like that. You can always choose to not go if you’re totally adverse to that kind of stuff, but the opportunities are out there if you want them.
- You can make it about anything in the world you want – Want to write about being a parakeet psychic? Day planners? Personal training? Sewing? Kids activities? Taxes? Coloring books? Go for it! You can write and promote anything in the universe. Heck, you could even write about the universe. You don’t even have to be creative. Sell other people’s creative stuff for them and let them do the hard part. You can just promote.
- It’s a great way to start a business with minimal overhead – Whether you have a current business plan or you just have a dream to own one, you can get started with a website at any time. Beginning with a blog is a great way to get your game out into the internet world and get those search engine bots familiar with your name and brand. Even if the website is to build hype before you’re ready to launch full scale with your actual business model, it’s worth the time and effort. Also, getting a head start will give you some practice on those computer and marketing skills that every business needs to gain that competitive advantage.
- It’s basically recession proof – The internet 1. never sleeps 2. is worldwide and 3. it isn’t going anywhere. When you start a brick-and-mortar business, many times you are marketing to a small target area and are at the whims of the local economy. There are no physical distances on the world wide web. You have an unlimited customer base! As long as you are providing something-> that someone -> somewhere (anywhere) would want, you have a legit chance to make money. (Again, that could be anything. Even if all you ever do is provide links to Amazon for products you think are cool, if that link is your personal affiliate link, you could make a commission from it. And commissions = CASH$$$$)
- It’s a legit work-from-home job for main income or a side hustle – No need to wonder if it’s a scam or not because it’s your own thing. There are a lot of work from home businesses out there, but you don’t own them and you don’t know anything about them. (you can know some stuff, but not everything) We’ve all seen the pitches from our friends or neighbors about their great work from home jobs, Join my team!! You’ll love it! Independent business woman!!! etc… but I would guess 99% of them are MLMs. MLMs are great and all, but the level of marketing you have to do is high and starts from Day 1. They can be a bit limiting as well since you have company policies to follow and a specific product line you’re held to. Now you could always start a blog with the mission of promoting your MLM products. People do that.
- It’s a great way to take your traditional brick and mortar business to another level – Own a gym? Why not offer online coaching or sell workout templates through a blog? You can offer your great training tips through blog posts and promote yourself to the ionosphere. Do you have a food truck? Build hype by giving out foodie tips and recipes and promote where you’ll be and the cuisine you serve. This goes for any type of business. There is no niche too narrow or topic too broad for blogging. The free promotion gets you found by search engines and brings real time foot traffic straight to your door.
